Aloha Kakou...’Ilio‘ulaokalani continues their
schedule of Native Hawaiian community meetings with two tomorrow (Sat., 3/01)
– at Waimea Falls Park and Wahiawa District Park. The group has just returned
from Hawai‘i Island, where they facilitated meetings in Hilo, Waimea, and
Kona (please
see this article link).
I want to clarify that these meetings INCLUDE representatives
from OHA during discussion on the recently-announced settlement. However,
these meetings are organized and facilitated by ’Ilio‘ulaokalani, and also
include discussions on Genetically-Modified Kalo, BioProspecting, and Con-Con
– all of which are being addressed at the Legislature this session and have
an impact on Native Hawaiians. I know there has been much confusion as both
OHA and I have sent out releases on these meetings. OHA also had scheduled
their own meetings on the settlement issue exclusively. However, it has been
decided to combine the meetings from here on, under ’Ilio‘ulaokalani’s leadership.
Meetings will continue through 3/19, at which time ’Ilio‘ulaokalani
will submit a report to the Legislature, which is due 3/26. All of the meetings
are being videotaped. I have updated the schedule in the press release, below,
and will also be updating the website (www.kuikapono.org). The flyer for March
1~8 is attached.
Please let me know if you have any questions, would like to
schedule an interview, need photos or anything else.
